Mayor Popp moved to Gilbert in 1982 with his wife Sharon. They have two children who both graduated from the Gilbert School District. Jon graduated from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He is the President of Popp Engineering, Inc. which provides engineering services to the seed industry.
Jon served as a Council Member from 2002 – 2007. He was elected Mayor in November of 2007 as has been re-elected for the position since 2009.
An active member of the Gilbert Lions Club and Gilbert Lutheran Choir, Jon also announces the Gilbert High School Soccer games.
